From age eight – 13 I regularly attended Sunday School and Children’s Choir at Glen
Burnie United Methodist Church. Then I became a teenager.
There are likely no signs of church attendance again until I was 16, when my husband,
Doug, took me on our first date to the Christmas Eve midnight service at Woods
Presbyterian Church in Severna Park. I then joined Woods’ 85 member choir, was
confirmed, and joined the church. I taught Sunday School for three years, and attended weekly until Doug and I were married in 1981.
From 1981 to 1985 we lived in Owings Mills, MD where we joined Northminster
Presbyterian in Reisterstown. At Northminster I joined the choir (surprise!), and we
became leaders of a very active Youth Group. Our older daughter was born in 1984,
and baptised at Northminster. In mid 1985 we moved back briefly to Severna Park, and then to South Baltimore.
We lived in Baltimore until December 1989. During those years we attended Lakeland
Presbyterian Church, where our younger was baptised. We attended services weekly
and, once again, I joined the choir. We were one of three or four young families who
called that church home, and could walk the two blocks from home to church easily.
Although lacking in steady family attendance, Lakeland had no paucity of children, and we became involved with the youth group once again.
In December 1989 we went on a grand adventure – we moved to Kent Island. At that
time there were no Presbyterian churches within tolerable driving distance for five and three year-old daughters. In figuring out our new life we happened upon Christ Church, Kent Island, then led by the Reverend James J. Shand. We immediately felt at home.
You know the routine, sing it with me now:
“I joined the choir, and we became youth group leaders.” Let’s just say we were very
active.
In 1998 we moved to Queen Anne (Starr, technically). Our daughters were in middle
and high school, and we continued attending Christ Church until our younger daughter graduated. Since we have always believed in supporting a local church, Doug and I began attending St. Paul’s, which has become our spiritual home. We have both served terms on Vestry, and have been active in the choir and continue to attend regularly.

Laura Roth (Vestry) My worship experience at St. Paul’s began thirty-five years ago when Charlie and I married at this beautiful church. We have a beautiful blended family of four adult children and ten grandchildren. All of our children have been confirmed, served as acolytes, and, went to Sunday school back many years ago. Two have been married at St. Paul’s. I have retired from direct service and program development after working for the Health Department in Kent County and the Department of Social Services in Queen Annes and Talbot County. I feel it is time for me to be of service to our Vestry. I truly love St Paul’s. I served on the altar guild, flower guild, ECW , and even taught Sunday school years ago. My recent participation on the Healing Prayer team was absolutely one of the most richest spiritual experiences I have had. I love the church, the people and certainly the mission of St. Paul’s. My hope is that I serve our members and mission by being a Vestry member.

Tad worked as a journalist for most of his career – writer, editor and executive editor – of various publications – including Dow Jones in New York; The Washington Post, as an editor focusing on international news; and Thompson Publishing Group, which publishes legal publications. After 30 years, he segued into real estate and has worked for TTR Sotheby’s International Realty in residential real estate. Tad serves as head usher, is a member of the vestry and is currently the Junior Warden. Tad and his wife have two sons who live and work in the Washington area.
Eleanor Strietman (Vestry) I was born and grew up in Frederick, Maryland. I was raised attending an Evangelical and Reformed Church. (In 1957 that denomination became the United Church of Christ following a merger with the Congregational Church.) I attended the University of Maryland and graduated with a degree in English and a minor in History. I met my late husband, Bob, while a student and we married following graduation. Bob was a banker, and we settled in Prince George’s County where I began attending a nearby Presbyterian Church. I sang in the choir and participated in the church’s many activities and programs. I was ordained as a Deacon and eventually elected to the Session – the Presbyterian equivalent of a Vestry. I continued to serve on that Session even after we moved to the Eastern Shore. I drove across the Bridge every Thursday evening for choir practice and then, again, every Sunday for church. I did this for several years before deciding to find a church near our new home. There were no Presbyterian churches close to Centreville, so I started attending the local Methodist church. I was a member there for several years before I realized that – although I liked the church, it wasn’t the right church for me. So, one beautiful Sunday morning, I decided to try St. Paul’s. From my first moment inside the doors, I knew I was finally “home” – exactly where God wanted me to be. I continue to feel that. I would be both humbled and honored to serve St. Paul’s as a member of the Vestry.

Sherri has been a member of St. Paul’s Choir, and she has been featured as a soloist in a number of services at the church. Sherri and Matt enjoy spending quality time together, whether visiting friends and family or traveling to explore new places. Their shared experiences and adventures strengthen their bond and bring joy to their lives.
